Peter
has always been attracted to the outdoors, with a specific interest in
wildlife. He played an active role in the founding of the Wildlife Photographic
Section of the Wildlife Society of SA, and later joined the Durban Camera
Club. During this period he regularly entered Salons and gained his FPSSA
for colour slides, his APSSA for colour prints and published works.
He has judged for both National and International salons in South Africa
and has lectured on photography.
Peter is a registered Nature Tour Guide. He also held the position of
President of the Durban Camera Club three times and was elected a Director
of PSSA in the 1980’s. Many of his wildlife images are marketed
in South Africa and abroad.
"I have been interested in wildlife from a very
early age. My first experience was a holiday to the Kruger National
Park. Every year from then on our family would head for the Park for
the holidays. At the age of 12 I took over from my father as official
cine photographer of the family. I progressed to 35mm slide film and
joined the Durban Camera Club. I formed, with a few colleagues, the
Natal Wildlife Photographic Section of the Wildlife Society of SA.
With the honour of being Chairman of the Durban Camera Club a number
of times, I also served as a Director of the PSSA and have obtained
my FPSSA with the society in colour slides and my APSSA in colour prints
and publications. Both my wife, May, and I spend every bit of spare
time heading for the bush. Photography led to me forming a company with
my brother namely Craig-Cooper & Fick. The Fick a very good friend
of ours is not part of the company any more.
Craig-Cooper & Fick produce a wildlife calendar every year for
the KZN Conservation Trust, which we market for them. We also produce
wall calendars, desk pads and diaries for corporate companies every
year.
Photography being a great part of our lives has led to many assignments
in addition to weddings, portrait and sporting fixtures. We have kept
abreast with the modern technology and are using the Canon Mark III and
20D cameras. The 35mm IV is used for all our scenic work. Digital video
has also formed part of our arsenal and a number of projects have been
completed. Over the years we have accumulated a vast library of images
that are regularly used by ad agents and interested bodies. We have
just recently helped WESSA with images for the new bird book and are
presently completing an Antelope book with them.
Photographic courses to assist photographers are also being set up
with my friend Emanuel Maria. Combined we have over 45 years of experience
in photography, please visit our site www.photographiccourses.co.za
for more information on our workshops.
Our knowledge of photography and wildlife has led to me becoming a
nature guide. Having organised many self drive trips into Africa we
decided to take clients with us to interesting areas in Southern Africa.
African Escapes was established with a colleague Chris Matthews and
myself. Although we have had tours to Botswana and Namibia it is our
intention to concentrate on South Africa and its great diversity of
wildlife. It is our intention to only have small parties where personal
attention is paramount and we organise and book tours to your requirements.
Please browse through our web pages and drop us a line, whether it
be for a tour, the purchase of promotional items, photographs that are
required, assignments that are needed or if you want to join one of
our photographic workshops."
